Vera Eunice Mathis

Vera E. Mathis (McArtor), age 95, of Bloomington, died Sunday at the Richland-Bean Blossom Health Care Center. Born June 28, 1921 in Elnora, Indiana, she was the daughter of Herman and Madge (Bradfield) McArtor. Vera worked as a cook at Grandview Elementary School prior to her retirement. She was an avid reader of history and loved learning. She also liked bird watching, traveling, listening to Gospel music and the Lawrence Welk Show. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vera was a member of the Westside Assembly of God Church and had attended Garrison Chapel. She is survived by her son, J. Marc Mathis, of Bloomington, her sister, Jean Johns, of Bloomington; five grandsons, Eric Frye, Tod Mathis, Troy Mathis, Aaron Frye and Michael Mathis; two granddaughters, Mendy Mathis-Kossmann and Melissa Wood and fourteen great-grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Mathis, one daughter, Jonell M. Frye, two sons, Michael Mathis and Matthew Mathis, three brothers, Ernest McArtor, Doyle McArtor and Leon McArtor and daughter-in-law, Barb Mathis. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel; 700 W. Gourley Pike. Graveside committal services will be held at Garrison Chapel Cemetery at 12:30 p.m
