RYLANDER, Wesley

Long-time Whittier resident and beloved father, Wesley "Wes" Rylander, passed away on February 25, 2014 at the age of 89, after suffering complications from Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Rylander, of La Mirada, CA; son, Kent Rylander, of Stanton, CA; sister, Doris Wallstrom of La Cañada Flintridge, CA; brother, Marvin Rylander of Rochester, MN; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. His wife, Margaret, passed away in 2002. Wes was born and raised in Detroit, MI. He served in the Army in Europe during WWII, as well as in the Navy during the Korean War. He married Margaret in Detroit in 1954, and they moved to Whittier in 1956. Wes taught elementary school in Downey for 27 years before retiring in 1980 to start a second career in Christian Education ministry, including the Christian Ministries Training Association (CMTA). Services for Wes are scheduled for Monday, March 10, with Graveside service at 1:00pm at Rose Hills Memorial Park, and Memorial Service at Granada Heights Friends Church in La Mirada at 2:30pm.
