About William Richard ALLEN

William Richard Allen was commonly known by his middle name, Richard. He was born in DeKalb County, Tennessee and moved his family along with his parents and siblings to Opelika, Lee County, Alabama around 1932 to work in the textile mill there.
One of his favorite hobbies was wookworking and he built many fine pieces of furniture during his lifetime.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Phenix City, Russell County, Alabama.
His obituary was first published in a newspaper in Phenix City, Russell County, Alabama on 1 Jan 1958 and then reprinted in the Opelika Daily News in Opelika, Lee County, Alabama. It read as follows:
W. R. Allen -- William Richard Allen, 56, died at 9 a.m. today at his home in Phenix City, 501 Cedar St. He had been ill for five months.
He had lived in Phenix City for seven years, moving here from Opelika, Ala.
He was born Sept. 1, 1901, in DeKalb Country, Tenn., son of Mrs Mary Cantrell Allen of Opelika, and the late Staley T Allen.
He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Roberts Allen, two sons, James E. Allen, Kelso, Wash., and Clarence O. Allen, Opelika; two brothers, Fred F. Allen, Opelika, and Elmer L. Allen, Phenix City; four sisters, Mrs. L. E. McBride, Port Hanene, Calif., Mrs. C. C. Cope, Federal, Tenn., Mrs. E. T. Moon, Columbus, and Mrs. J. C. Duke, Phenix City; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Britton and Dobbs, Phenix City.
