About William Breed Hampson

Born in Bradford County,Pennsylvania; he was a well known local singer, musician and music teacher. Having studied abroad in Milan,London & Paris and also in New York.
He operated studios in Pittsburgh, Altoona & Punxsutawney,teaching voice & musical instruments.

A member of the John W. Jenks Masonic Lodge and the M.E. Church in Punxsutawney. During his earlier years,he was the leader of the LIN-TA Fire Departments Marching Band in Towanda,Bradford County,Pennsylvania.
When his parents moved from Altoona to Punxsutawney;Will assisted briefly in the organization and opening of the Cortez Coal Company ,located in Cortez, McCalmont Township,Jefferson County,which was owned by his Father,Roger, and his younger brother,John R. Hampson.
Those lands being formerly owned by George & Barbara Hoffman Noerr and the site of the earlier Morrison Mines in Cortez.

He was married first in Chicago,Illinois, to Miss Kate McBride Lapham,the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Lapham & Catherine Gibson Lapham of Canandaiagua,New York.
They were the parents of:
~~ Alice Hampson 1895 – 1895;
~~ Emma Josephine Hampson 1896 – 1964
~~ Henry Sherman Hampson 1897 – 1990.
All of their children were born in Altoona,Blair county,PA. Kate left Will in 1900 and returned to her parents home near LaPorte,Indiana.

Will & Kate divorced in July of 1901.

Will was later married to Miss Mabel Beyer,the daughter of
Joseph Martin Beyer and Jennie A. Eckman Beyer,of Punxsutawney. Joseph Beyer operated Beyer's Drug Store in Punxsutawney.

Will & Mabel were the parents of:
~~ Christina Beyer Hampson Muir 1904 – 1985;
~~ Alice Beyer Hampson Nicklas 1906 – 2007;
~~ Rebecca Beyer Hampson Sawyer 1908 – 1974.

Will and Mabel made a home in Wilkensburg and later in Punxsutawney at 1000 Woodland Avenue .

Will died of a heart ailment while visiting at the home of his daughter & son-in -law, Mr. & Mrs. Edward Nicklas,MD,in Washington,D.C.
