Hietaniemi cemetery is a cemetery located on the western edge of the inner city of Helsinki, which was founded in 1829. It is mainly located in the Lapinlahti sub-region, partly in Etu-Töölö. Hietaniemi cemetery is a popular tourist destination, as a considerable number of prominent figures in Finnish history have been buried there since the 1820s, including most of the late presidents of the republic. Guidelines and tips - read this first!
The plan is to include only persons whose final resting place is in Hietaniemi Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Helsinki. Before adding a profile, please check that its grave location information contains this information - the more precisely the location of the grave (area, block, row, grave site) is marked, the better!'For example:
Note! The area is important information, because the same block numbers exist in different areas. Don't mix up different areas, see further on in more detail about the regions.
You should use Find Grave as a help, although even that cannot find all of them. You can also add a photo of a grave to your profile, either taken by yourself or from a tombstone search service such as Billion Graves. Also in the FB group Suomen kirkkoja ja hautausmaita there are comprehensive photos of the graves of Hietaniemi, worth checking out!
As a member of the project, do not hesitate to complete the burial place information of the added profiles if you notice any gaps in them. Let's keep the quality of the project good together!
